This lot will be accompanied by a Letter of Provenance, attesting to the fact that it resided in the historic Early '66 Time Capsule Collection, one of the most exciting and important concert poster discoveries of the past 20 years.

We're pleased to offer the collecting community the very FIRST example of this Grateful Dead handbill to EVER appear in our auction. It is also, to our knowledge the very FIRST specimen to appear in ANY auction!

Peace Rock material has always been perceived as important and collectors explicitly hunt for these scarce original gems on a regular basis. What makes this piece BIG, is of course that it is a VERY rare piece of Grateful Dead. The Charlatans and Great Society really round out this piece as being an early Bay Area music classic.

Exceptionally rare. No hype needed. There may only be 4-5 copies of this out there! MAYBE NONE In this fabulous SUPER CLEAN condition WITH NO TEARS OR PINHOLES. Very desirable Grateful Dead piece that obviously only a few lucky collections may already possess. Yes, it’s silly, a bit juvenile looking and crude - but all the more charming for it.

In regards to condition and grade, this lot generated much discussion at our office. The paper is SUPER CLEAN and IMMACULATE. But the handbill does exhibit toning in the upper left quadrant. In an abundance of strictness and conservatism, we are attaching an Almost Mint 89 to this lot, although a strong case can be made fore grading it Mint 92. In any event, this is the FIRST to appear at auction. Is it possible that one day another may surface. Maybe. If a specimen did surface, would it equal this in grade? Not likely!

This handbill is exponentially rarer than the poster for this event, that we sold in Part One of the Early '66 Time Capsule Collection for $6,000. Much less common than the poster produced for this event. You can review that sale here. If you are a serious Grateful Dead collector, or you really focus on big deal early Haight-Ashbury, hippie culture material, this is a must have prize!

Estimate $3,000-$6,000
