The CGC Spectacular Spring Sale (Auction #132)
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/8/2021
Presenting the first CGC Graded example of this Howlin' Wolf original handbill to appear in our auction. Born Chester Arthur Burnett, Howlin’ Wolf was a Delta Blues innovator and one of the greatest live performers of all time in that genre. Along with artists like Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon, Howlin ‘ Wolf was responsible for the Blues Rock renaissance of the 1960's. Many of the San Francisco Bands of the day were influenced by, and covered his music.
The great Bluesman played at the tiny Matrix Club for three nights in April 1967 and this striking handbill is a well preserved artifact from those events. The Matrix was a tiny club in San Francisco that held just 150 people. How many handbills could they have possibly produced for this run of shows? This handbill is 100% Original with no restoration.
